I currently live in Brooklyn with my three little boys and husband. What can I say, I’m the unofficial -but official - Queen in my house. I love weird combinations of food (more on that later), going out (MOMS CAN DANCE TOO), and seeing the "A-HA" look on a founder's face when they unleash the story that has been buried in them and their business for way too long.
In case you missed Wednesday’s email… I mentioned that I’m about to love bomb your inbox for the next few weeks as I am running a “How to Build Your Own Storytelling AI Agent” workshop at the end of this month…
Huh what?
If you want your mind to be actually blown and see how you can turn every conversation you have into endless content ideas (automatically)... click on the waitlist below.
Please find the lie but I no joke wake up to emails from my AI Storytelling LinkedIn agent with story ideas from moments and topics I completely forgot I even talked about in my coaching calls, team meetings and 1:1 client work.
I know that if I get too swamped… (because dear Lord Jesus I just cannot batch and I am done fighting it and FEELING GUILTY ABOUT IT.)
Now I can pull from my post document that was sent to my email and she even gives me a nice little summary before she dives into the hook bank, post copy, and the spreadsheet where everything is auto populated.
Ok sorry I actually love her and I want you to have one that you love too… but moving on…
So remember that “Second Act” summit I mentioned?
The one with 30 brilliant women all figuring out their second acts here in Lisbon?
No, you don’t remember? Well you can watch this very $hit video I pulled together for a LinkedIn post but you know what… it does the job!
The Mini Summit was the brainchild of my friend Shirley, a master community organizer who had her own brick and mortar social club for new moms when she was living in Berlin.
This is Shirley on the left in the photo below and the woman on the right is my other “Second Act” friend, Stephanie, who moved here from Florida and runs pickle ball social clubs all over the States… but Pickle Ball is not a thing in Lisbon… YET.
The theme of the day was women navigating their own version of a “second act” ***erm I think i’m in my 4th but whose counting..
In a meta move my “Second Act*er” friend Chloe hosted us all at her gorgeous brick and mortar design studio….HER second act after leaving the entertainment world in LA to launch this dream.
Some women were pivoting careers at 45.
Lots of international moves.
Many launching businesses after years of “someday,”
A few rediscovering who they are after “only” being a mom.
We had MANY lawyers who were like “time to do something new.”
Me and Alex (the blonde sitting next to me who built an 8-figure company called Hulken with a logo her husband scribbled in Canva 5 years ago… and STILL uses it) shared our imperfect playbooks for just getting started.
What became crystal clear as the day went on and we workshopped with these women…
The thing holding most of them back wasn’t strategy.
It wasn’t market research or business plans.
It was simply starting.
And their internal beliefs.
→ “I need to perfect my website first”
→ “My logo isn’t quite right yet”
→ “I don’t have enough followers”
→ “My story isn’t that interesting”
Alex told us she JUST did a proper brand book this year… 8 figures in.
Let that sink in.
My StoryPro still has NO LOGO a year in. The colors are from my now 4-year-old website.
I am not anti logo (I REALLY do need to get one soon for My StoryPro) but I say this because so many of the women thought they needed ALL these other THINGS perfectly in order before they FULLY went “all in” on their second act.
But they didn’t.
Because every single woman in that room was sitting on GOLD.
In the form of (WAIT FOR IT) personal stories that would make their ideal clients instantly be connected to them.
Moments that would build instant trust and connection.
And that is the most important piece in business… outside of having a really awesome product (or service.)
I did a little exercise on them where I turned their “what do you do?” statements into powerful micro stories with barely adding extra words.
One Second Act*er Linda, said:
BEFORE: “I’m building a kids’ neon swimwear brand focused on safety & sustainability.”
AFTER: “A month ago I had a terrifying moment with my son at the pool that I never want another parent to experience…now I am on a mission to launch the first ever European….”
Same business.
Completely different impact.
The difference?
SHE was showing up in her full power and now I wanted what she was selling.
So let me wrap this up.. But in case you are new here the hill I’ll always die on is:
Your story > your strategy (at least in the beginning).
Start relentlessly telling people your WHY and see what happens.
Take us along your journey as I am sure I will laugh at you, cry with you, cringe with you and ultimately root for you.
Let people see the human behind the business.
Because on the low days of building your business (and there are many) you will need to be carried by yes, your own internal belief… but also by the belief of others around you.
Let us all rally around you and feel something deeper about your brand.
Second acts don’t have timelines.
They just need you to start.
Please reply to this email and tell me what your second act (or 4th act) is! And if you are ever in Lisbon, let me know as we run Second Act breakfasts and we’d love to have you crash the next one.
XO
