I currently live in Brooklyn with my three little boys and husband. What can I say, I’m the unofficial -but official - Queen in my house. I love weird combinations of food (more on that later), going out (MOMS CAN DANCE TOO), and seeing the "A-HA" look on a founder's face when they unleash the story that has been buried in them and their business for way too long.
Pitching yourself & your business to the media, your favorite podcast, that accelerator, your favorite brand is part art and part science. I am dropping two IG Lives below with two of my favorite media friends who tell you EXACTLY what they like and don’t like in those pitches they get.
But first, I want to address timing.
This morning I received this DM:
“When do you think is the right time to start making content to pitch our story before the November 2022 brand launch? What about press?”
“NOW!” I replied. Yes, even if you haven’t launched your product yet.
Why?
Because you want to go into launch being the best possible version of your business and drumming up excitement in the community, you inevitably will need to build.
All of that stuff takes TIME.
In other words, you want to pull a Kylie J.
Yes, I am encouraging you to be like Jenner.
She was MASTERFUL at building the audience for her lip products BEFORE they even existed.
She was masterful at storytelling, connecting and making her tribe feel vested before anything had even happened.
She created a community of ravenous fans hungry for whatever makeup product she was going to throw at them.
The press came to her (and yes I know we’re not Kardashians -but there are lessons to be had.)
That family understands the assignment.
Like mine did for Halloween (SORRY. HAD. TO. DROP. THIS)
Check out this IG Live with Joelle Garguilo, not only my former workwife at the TODAY Show, but a 2x Emmy-award winning producer and reporter.
Come for the pitching advice. Stay to hear how I almost got fired for butt dialing my boss for hours from a bar crawl in NYC (ACTUALLY HAPPENED)
And then, if you need another perspective, check out this IG live with Terry Rice, regular columnist at Entrepreneur Magazine. He prefers you to connect with him in a really specific way. My Make Media Moves Co-teacher, Sabina Hitchen hosted us on her platform.
I hope you get value out of these videos and remember… it is NEVER too early to start working on your business brand stories and building that media list of people you want to target.
Tell me what media person you’d love to learn from and I can see if I can make it happen!
