I currently live in Brooklyn with my three little boys and husband. What can I say, I’m the unofficial -but official - Queen in my house. I love weird combinations of food (more on that later), going out (MOMS CAN DANCE TOO), and seeing the "A-HA" look on a founder's face when they unleash the story that has been buried in them and their business for way too long.
One of the biggest reasons people don’t use video to promote their business or side hustle is because they are scared.
💎Scared of what to say.
💎Nervous they have nothing useful TO say.
💎Self-conscious of how they look. How they sound.
💎Overwhelmed by the tech part of video creation.
💎Unsure what aspects of their business should be put into video form.
💎Afraid others will judge them negatively.
✨And I’m here to say this.
Anyone or any business you admire that is doing really cool things on Instagram stories, Linkedin, TikTok or Youtube….they all had the same fears as you but did it anyway. They recognized it wasn’t about them. It was about their audience and they needed to show up for them.
Guess what, your first (OK probably 20) video(s) will suck baaaaad. And that’s OK. You need to just start. Because it will probably suck more to you than your actual audience. And if it’s your first time showing up for your audience on camera….tell them!
Vulnerability sells. It shows that you’re a real-live human with real emotions on the other side of your business. We don’t always have to act like the expert or the guru or the person who knows everything. In fact, you’ll probably do more in business if you DON’T try and be that person 24-7.
You WILL get better at video & the more you “do” the more info you get about what your audience wants….and what they don’t want!
This invaluable data will inform future creations and make you and your business better quicker.
It’s why video and more importantly consistent video from founders tend to move the needle the quickest. People really like to know who the person behind the curtain is.
So the next time you decided to “Put off video” because you’re scared about any of the points above, flip your script. Tell yourself it’s your duty to share your gifts, talents and skills with the world, especially if you have the ability to inspire or help even one person.
Good luck!
